Tim Chapman, founder & senior communications consultant

I launched Othersfield after 15 years at the University of Sheffield, leading communications for the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre and Nuclear AMRC. During that time, I collaborated with countless outstanding and innovative companies on joint campaigns and case studies. I soon realised that many weren’t able to tell their stories or showcase their expertise as well as they deserved.
So I created Othersfield to help them do just that. I now provide expert sustainability PR and communications support to organisations of all sizes.
I have been writing about climate and decarbonisation issues for almost 30 years. I am an Affiliate Member of the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP), and Certified Carbon Literate.
From 1997-2009, I worked as an award-winning journalist and content creator for an array of publications and businesses. As a writer, I thrive on taking deep dives into challenging topics to find the real stories and share insight. With academic qualifications in Astrophysics and Economics & Finance, I’m very happy dealing with complex technical material.
I am a CIPR Chartered Public Relations Practitioner, and part of the CIPR STEM group committee.
I’m based in Huddersfield (aka Othersfield) in West Yorkshire. Alongside the paid work, I support local stakeholders as part of the Kirklees Climate Commission and volunteer with EPIKS.
I also enjoy photography, wildlife-friendly gardening, publishing the odd book, and improving the energy efficiency of an early Victorian house.

Sustainability in practice
In line with our values and interests, Othersfield operates as sustainably as possible.

We chose GreenGeeks to host this site. GreenGeeks aims to be the world’s eco-friendliest hosting company, purchasing renewable energy certificates to cover three times its electricity consumption.
Good Energy, the UK’s only B Corp provider of 100% renewable electricity, powers our home office. Good Energy also supplies gas for heating which includes 10% biogas, and offsets the remainder by funding overseas biogas projects. Longer-term, we’re looking at heat pumps or other technology to remove the need for any gas.
We travel by public transport where possible, or by electric car.
Business networks and support
We believe in mutually supporting other growth businesses, especially those working with low-carbon technologies or based in the Yorkshire region. By sharing best practice and helping each other through common difficulties, we can all better deliver sustainable economic growth.

Othersfield is a member of Green Economy, a network of businesses, tradespeople and professionals providing low-carbon technology products and services covering Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire. Check us out in the Green Economy Marketplace.
Othersfield is also part of the Ad:Venture business support programme from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, and the Wilson’s Republic network for creative industries in Huddersfield and Kirklees.
